Positive Experiences

  • It’s really the reinvention of a dumb terminal, but at this stage, you can use any computer to achieve the same. I like it and I can see how this would upset computer makers whose business model depends on planned obsolescence. Think about that old iMac or MacBook, or PC that can’t run the new bloated OSs. I like it.
  • I think this is a great idea, and I am excited to see what comes of it. People may have had similar ideas before, but that’s all they were, ideas. It seems like Paperspace is making it happen. Very cool! All your eggs are in their ‘trust us, it’s fine’ network
  • I too appreciate the sound of it but what are it’s comparative dimensions in relation to speed of processing and cloud storage interfacing. This could allow you to use a 10 year old laptop that is still in good working order and get you better performance than a new, top of the line laptop.

Negative Experiences

  • The default assumption should be that at least their DB admins will have access to your data. Even if Paperspace claims that is not the case because of encryption then they can well have application administrators who have access to your account.
  • Everything about this except for not having to update yourself is a bad idea. Latency, internet problems, impossible tech support. I’ve had to work over direct desktop before and I hated every minute of it. Even a fraction of a second of latency, it’s like driving nails into your brain. You can’t get your rhythm right, and things don’t click when you click them, then 3 copies open but you can’t close them because the X won’t click, but then you accidentally click something else, etc. It’s not good.
  • That is the stupidest idea i have ever heard. Who the hell happens if internet goes down for repairs or whatever? Imagine a whole company without internet for only an hour and nobody can keep on working.Useless
